Lesson learned this week – Stay in my car until 2 minutes before we start to run!

Brrr another cold run this week but what should I expect for the middle of January.  It was about 30 out again. It’s not cold after I run for a few minutes but since we didn’t meet at the Fleet Feet store this week, we met out front of a local high school, we had to wait outside in the cold until we started our run.  Even with my gloves on the first mile or so my hands were so cold that they hurt.

I really enjoyed the new scenery. During my weekly individual runs I have my home route and my work route so they get a bit boring sometimes.  Running somewhere different is nice during the Saturday runs.

We did 5.4 miles from the high school through a neighborhood over to the park/soccer fields and back. By the end of the run my body warmed up and I was thinking how nice it was outside.  Wrong!  When I was driving home I was getting colder and colder and turning my heat up higher and higher. My body was cooling down to its normal temperature and I was realizing how cold I really was.  I got back into bed pretty much immediately after I got home and was soooooo cold! I had to cuddle up under the covers to keep my self-warm.  I think this week I should turn my heat up in my house before I leave!

This Saturday we are meeting at Tin Roof 2 in Cool Springs AND they will be having breakfast for all the runners afterwards, YEAH! I’m excited.  6 miles here we come!

I can’t believe 2011 is here already!

Thank You to all of our friends and family that helped us make our first few months so Great!

Last year my Mom and I started www.littlebitsoftime.com to share with others what we do with our “Little Bits of Time.”  Between our full time jobs, me going to Grad school and spending time with our family and friends all we have left is “Little Bits of Time” through out our week to do what we enjoy.

We also started making jewelry in 2010 during our “Little Bits of Time.”  We unexpectedly came up with the idea to start the Schnitzel Shop and have had lots of fun with our new adventure.

2011 is now here and we hope to grow our business and our blog.  With Grad school FINALLY being finished in February I hope my “Little Bits of Time” turn into BIGGER bits of time.

Since I’ll finally be free of writing papers week after week I have some things I want to do (and to share with you} when I have “more time” in 2011!

1.     Read a book  (that has Nothing to do with school)

2.     Take more pictures, maybe get a “real” camera

3.     Sew Something

4.     Run (You can continue to read about my ½ Marathon Training here)

5.     Continue working on The Schnitzel Shop

I look forward to seeing what 2011 has to bring for our Blog, The Schnitzel Shop and our lives!

Go!

Yesterday was our first training run for the ½ Marathon.  I was up before the sun! I bundled up and made sure to arrive early to have enough time to figure out where to be.  I decided to run with the 10:30 pace group which I think is a good fit.  We were suppose to be doing a 4 mile run but my GPS app on my phone says we did 4.41miles.  We kept an average pace of 10:27, which I’m pretty happy about.

It was definitely COLD out yesterday morning.  I think it was about 29 degrees but the wind chill factor was WAY colder.  The first half of the run was really windy.  I heard someone say behind us it was the blistery cold wind you feel against your face when you are skiing.  It also snowed the entire time!  Luckily I was prepared with my headband to keep my ears warm and my gloves kept my fingers from turning numb.

While running, it definitely made me realize although I was able to continue running the whole time without stopping I need to be sure I’m doing my weekly runs.  I can’t slack off on those or I really don’t think I’ll be able to keep up.  Each week we add another mile to our Saturday morning group runs and at this point I just don’t see how we are going to run more then 5 miles… but then again 2 months ago I would have never thought I would be running 3 miles as an “everyday” run.

My plan for the New Year:  Run a ½ Marathon!

That’s right, I signed up for the Nashville Country Music Marathon.

What was I thinking?!?!?

Hahaha.  I actually didn’t think much about it at all.  My friend Kim ran it last year and trained with Fleet Feet in Nashville/Brentwood and asked me to join along this year.  She must have just caught me at a good time because I just thought, “sure, why not”  I guess it was good that I didn’t think about running 13.1 miles much before signing up.  I had NO intentions of running a ½ Marathon before she asked.  After my 5k I thought maybe I would sign up for another 5k or two during the year but that it.

Training starts this Saturday at 7 AM!!  and we’ll be running 4 miles.  I must have been sick when I signed up for something at 7 AM on a Saturday!!  I usually enjoy sleeping in on Saturday’s morning. I like to get up at more of a 9:30 -10ish time frame….. I guess that won’t be happening for the next 4 months. Yikes!  I have a feeling they’ll be some napping going on Saturday afternoons :-)

I’ll be writing about my runs on here so you can follow along to see how my ½ Marathon training is coming along. (and so you can cheer me on)

Wish me luck!
